Vision Boards: Stay On Track and Manifest Your Goals

Vision boards are a great way to analyze what your goals are for the upcoming year, and manifest whatever those goals are into a reality. By spending some quality time deciding what is actually important to you, and understanding what you are most interested in achieving, you can get organized for the new year and plan for success.

So, What is a Vision Board?

Simply put, a vision board is a visualization tool that is created to reflect goals, aspirations, motivational quotes, and any other positive additions that you may identify with. It is typically a poster board, or piece of paper, that has cut-outs and clippings of different photos, words, etc. glued or pasted onto it. It can be any dimension and will look different depending on the individual.

In fact, vision boards are so effective that many famous and successful people swear by them! To name a few: Oprah, Jim Carrey, Will Smith and Katy Perry.

Getting Started

The first step in creating a vision board is sitting down to understand what your goals for the new year are. Take a piece of paper and write a list of anything you can think of, in order of importance. Feel free to include short term goals, long term goals, and even goals you may feel are a bit out of reach. It may also be helpful to break all of your goals into categories, such as family, school, career, health. If you get stuck here, look back at 2019. What are you proud of? Why? What would you like to continue or not continue and why? Reflecting back may help you move forward. You can also use 2020 to start with a clean slate. It’s all up to you.

Inspiration

Now that you have all of your goals jotted down, look for inspiration! Go through magazines, books and newspapers, and tear out anything that you feel reflects the goals you just worked on. If you do not have access to magazines, feel free to use a computer and printer as well.

Creating Your Vision Board

Once you have your goals and supporting clippings, start to paste everything in a collage format on your poster board. Note, this typically works best if you have a lot of different colors and textures from clippings to work with.

Putting Your Vision Board Into Practice

Once you finish creating your 2020 vision board, hang it somewhere visible to ensure you can see it every day. This will help you stay on track and help with the “magic” vision boards tend to bring. You may also be interested in keeping a vision journal, where you can write down your thoughts and make note of any goals you may reach or progress you may notice.
