How Do You Get Motivated?

What do you do when you have to get something done, but you just don’t want to do it? We asked our students, and here were their responses…

“I say something positive to myself like, ‘I can do it.’ ”

“If I don’t want to do it because it’s hard, I say, ‘It’s okay, I’m still learning.’ ”

“It’s boring, but I’m going to think of something positive and not make it a big deal.”

“I listen to music. It gives me energy.”

“I try not think about it. I just do it.”

“I look at the final prize, so the final reason of why I’m doing it.”

“I see the glass half full, not half empty, and focus on doing it as best as I can.”

“I tell myself I only have to do it for 30 minutes, and then I take a break.“

“I do something I want to do for 10 minutes and tell myself I have to get it done after that.”

“I think about the consequence of not getting it done.”

“I try to make it fun, like doing with a friend.”

Perhaps one of these insights or strategies will work for you. Tasks we don’t want to start seem to have an emotional link. It’s not always as simple as just getting it done. There is an awareness about what will get you through it or the meaning of getting it done. Something to think about.
